NEBDS Funding Scheme

The National Epidermolysis Bullosa Dressing Scheme (NEBDS) supports people with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) by improving access to subsidised wound dressings, bandages, and ancillary products. It is funded by the Australian Government and administered by Independence Australia.

Who is eligible to receive NEBDS funding?

Applicants must be clinically diagnosed with EB and be an Australian citizen or resident who is eligible to receive Medicare benefits.

People with all types of EB are eligible under the scheme.

Skin biopsy and/or genetic testing is required to support your application as follows:

  • For newborns tests and results must be submitted within 3 months of approval
  • For all others tests and results must be submitted within 6 months of approval

How to Apply for NEBDS Funding

Step 1
Review the Eligibility Criteria.
Step 2
Obtain an Application Form from Independence Australia.
Step 3
Complete the Application Form and obtain all necessary documents.
Step 4
Send the completed Application Form and all necessary documents (including a copy of your Concession Card if appropriate) to Independence Australia.

What dressings are available with NEBDS Funding?

An extensive list of government subsidised dressings, bandages, and ancillary products for people with EB has been approved for supply to eligible applicants under the scheme.

Recipients can order dressings up to the amount of their Standard Order prescribed by their Treating Healthcare Professional.
