Core Support

The budget for NDIS core supports is the most flexible. This means that you are allowed to use your funding to receive support in one category and if your circumstances change, then you can shift your funding to another support category. You are also allowed to reduce or increase the amount of support you receive if your situation changes.

Core supports include:

• • Consumables 
    These are divided into eight categories and include continence aids (e.g. disposable pads and pants), wound care products, nutritional products, products to protect your bed and chairs and equipment to help you with your mobility.
    For example : support to buy everyday items like continence aids.
• • Assistance with your daily life
    Having someone to help you around the house or with your personal care, taking part in physiotherapy, speech or occupational therapy sessions or having someone to help you if you are out in the community, at work or at an educational facility.
    For example : support to access personal and domestic care and help with household tasks.
• • Assistance to participate in activities
    This may involve providing a support person to help you to take part in social and community activities or in an educational facility (e.g. in a university or TAFE)
    For example : supports to access sport or art classes and other activities that build skills and independence.
• • Transport
    Funds will be provided to pay for a taxi or other specialised transport services so that you can take part in community and other activities.
    For example: specialised transport to school, work or your community if you are unable to use public transport.

Capacity building supports

Funding that falls under the capacity building support budget is shared among eight sub-categories that align with your goals. The Capacity Building support budgets are not as flexible as the core supports and so you will not be able to move funding between the categories.

Core supports include:

    For example : funding to develop your ability to connect with and manage your own supports.
    
• • Daily Activity
    For example : support for training, development and/or therapy that can help you increase your independence and community participation.
• • Employment
    For example : support to transition into employment.
• • Health and Wellbeing
    For example : funding for dietitians or exercise physiology
• • Home Living
    For example : support to access and use accommodation, outreach programs and group homes.
    
• • Lifelong Learning
    For example : support to move into further education.
• • Relationships
    For example : positive behaviour management strategies and social skills development.
• • Social and Community Participation
    For example : support to access recreation and community programs.

Capital supports

Funding under the capital supports budget provides for supports like assistive technology or home modifications. This funding requires quotes from suppliers and funds can only be used to the purpose outlined in your plan.

The two capital supports categories are:

• Assistive Technology
  For example : vehicle modifications, equipment such as a wheelchair and other mobility aids.

• Home Modifications
  For example : the installation of grab rails, toilet and bathroom aids, specialist disability accommodation
