Get to know us
We are a unique social enterprise built to deliver disability, health, family, and community services and products that support independence.
Why we’re here
We create opportunities for people to live with independence and realise their potential.
We are committed to working collaboratively alongside the people we support and their families to provide quality, safe and sustainable services and products that respond to individual needs, goals, and choices.
We’re a social enterprise
Purchase with a purpose
We’re a social enterprise, which means every purchase helps fund services for people with disability and supports children, young people and their families across Australia.
We distribute products to hundreds of thousands of customers throughout Australia. Funds generated from our personal health and wellbeing products, mobility aids, and equipment sales directly support the essential programs we deliver to the people we support.
With more than 13,000 products available and warehouses in every state, we make it easy to get what you need, delivered quickly to your door. As Australia’s leading supplier of continence aids, wound care, nutrition, skin care, and mobility and daily living aids, we understand the complexities our customers can face, and we are here to help you find the right solution.
Our purpose and values
Everything we do is guided by our “North Star”: We create opportunities for people to live with independence and realise their potential.
To guide us in living this purpose every day, we share three core values:
Be Supportive
Pulling together as one team, celebrating differences, and making others feel safe, valued, and included.
Be Excellent
Challenging ourselves to deliver best practice for better outcomes.
Be Proud
Celebrating the work we do, focusing on outcomes that deliver a real difference and build trust.

1957 – 1976
From a hospital ward to a community
We create opportunities for people to live with independence and realise their potential. Since beginning our journey in 1957, our services have impacted the lives of thousands of Victorians, and as we’ve evolved into a social enterprise, the stories of the people in our community have become intertwined with our own. While we are driven by a passion born almost seventy years ago, the positive impact on our community has maintained our drive to continue to make a difference.
1980 – 2001
Expanding our support
As the needs of our community evolved, so did we. We opened our first supported independent living houses in 1980 and became a major provider of attendant support in Victoria. Recognising that independence is about more than just physical support, we established a first-of-its-kind Psychology and Counselling service in 2001 in collaboration with the Robert Rose Foundation. During this time, we were known as ParaQuad Victoria.
2004 – 2013
A national social enterprise
To reach more people, we expanded our distribution network across Australia, opening centres in every state. In 2008, we officially became Independence Australia—a name that better reflected our broader focus on supporting people with varying disabilities and personal needs. We acquired Mobility Aids Australia and proudly became a registered NDIS provider in 2013.
2015 – 2025
Growing stronger together
We know we can achieve more when we work together. Over this decade, we welcomed several great organisations into the Independence Australia family, including DASSI, Zest Care, SASI, and AQA Victoria. This allowed us to expand our disability services into New South Wales and Queensland, building on each other’s expertise to deliver better, more consistent support.
2026 & Beyond
One united team
Today, following our acquisition of Possability Group, we step forward as one team. We are proud to be one of Australia’s most significant for-purpose social enterprises, continuing our 70-year legacy of creating opportunities for people to live with independence and realise their potential.
